Columbia Basin College ('CBC' or the 'College') seeks an Assistant Director for IT Infrastructure and Security is responsible for planning, implementing, upgrading and monitoring network infrastructures and security measures for the protection of computer networks and information systems. This position ensures appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard those systems, including but not limited to digital files and vital electronic infrastructure, and manages the response to computer security breaches and viruses. The Assistant Director for IT Infrastructure and Security reports to the Director for Technology Services.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure all security standards are reviewed yearly and deficiencies are remediated;
  • Create and manage a highly effective IT infrastructure group;
  • Set expectations and conduct yearly performance evaluations of direct supervised staff;
  • Manage low voltage wiring jobs;
  • Assist with the creation of security policies;
  • Keep up-to-date with the Washington State Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and implement state wide policies as required;
  • Ensure compliance with State Board of Community & Technical Colleges Information Technology Division (SBCTC-ITD) security standards; document and remediate;
  • Direct staff to perform yearly security awareness training session for all staff and faculty;
  • Review a security awareness module for new employee orientation that is in line with the state OCIO standards;
  • Act as the central point of contact for all IT security incidents and be the primary point-of-contact for external law enforcement agencies when investigating breaches in security;
  • Maintain the IT Disaster recovery plan, testing it on an annual basis;
  • Identify best practices for Firewall configurations;
  • Work with SBCTC-ITD network engineers to ensure connectivity to all state systems;
  • Manage the Infrastructure team in the following areas and assist as needed: Firewall, Layer 3 switches, VPN access and Server infrastructure;
  • Keep up-to-date on Payment Card Industry compliance and make recommendation to remediate risk;
  • Review internal audits of server, desktop, and network systems and remediate any deficiencies;
  • Review network utilization reports and make suggestions based on use;
  • Manage Quality of Service protocols to ensure proper prioritization of network resources;
  • Assist with configuring and installing an existing network hardware;
  • Review wireless coverage reports and make recommendations to increase capacity;
  • Work with a team to create strategic initiatives such as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD);
  • Assure patches and major releases of all wireless hardware and software are maintained; perform routine audits of the system configurations;
  • Monitor the Technology Services Security team to ensure all systems are identified and remediated;
  • Work with the Technology Services Team to create best practices regarding Patching, Updating and planning of future upgrades.
  • Work with desktop and lab administrators to ensure the proper versions of software like Internet Explorer are being pushed to the correct groups;
  • May assume the duties of the Director of Technology Services in their absence; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Cyber Security, or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Five (5) years of work experience designing, implementing and maintaining IT systems;
  • Five (5) years of a strong understanding in IT security processes, technologies, standards and best practices;
  • Working knowledge of current information security laws and accepted industry practice;
  • Project management skills;
  • Knowledge of identifying and remediating system and network vulnerabilities; and
  • Knowledge of Antivirus and Patch management solutions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, overtime exempt, administrative position. The typical work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening work may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis, such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. It is a fast paced and sometimes stressful services environment. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. This position has an occasional need for travel.
