The Role

Applications are invited for a Teaching Fellowship in Criminology with a specialist knowledge in Criminological Theory and Research Methods, and with a research/scholarship interest that aligns to Violence and Abuse or more broadly to our new Criminal Justice, Social Harm and Inequalities Research Theme. The successful applicant will support the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The post will involve convening, teaching on and assessing modules, primarily at the Undergraduate level and supporting student dissertation projects at either level.

Modules likely to be delivered in the first instance include:

· Contribution to the delivery of Research Methods

· Contribution to the delivery of Criminological Theory

· Sociology of Violence and Abuse.

While the post is full time, we welcome applications from candidates who could undertake aspects of the role on a part-time basis or as a job share with another candidate.

The post-holder(s) will report formally to the Head of Department but will work on a day-to-day basis with the programme directors for undergraduate studies and postgraduate programmes and with other established module convenorship teams.

We are seeking to appoint candidates with a strong grounding in areas linked to one or more of our departmental research themes in Violence and Abuse / Criminal Justice, Social Harm and Inequalities, and experience of teaching within a Higher Education context.

The role is intended to provide additional short-term cover to support the increased student numbers that are a consequence of Covid-19 disruptions, with the role not currently intended to extend beyond the advertised fixed term. Permanent positions in the Department are advertised via the University's academic recruitment campaign which begins in the autumn of each year.

Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible. The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a significant teaching load, which may extend into the summer period, and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy.

The post is for a fixed term only, and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.

Successful applicants will, ideally be in post by 1st September 2023.

The University provides a working and teaching environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate these key principles as part of the assessment process.
