Qualifications:
COUN 771: PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY
This course provides an introduction to the biochemical and neurological structures involved in psychological functioning. Overview of the various classes of psychotropic medications commonly used to treat psychiatric illnesses, including antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers, etc. Overview of possible therapeutic benefits and side-effects/risks associated with their use. Review of ethical and legal considerations, communication with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and client/consumers.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have an M.S., M.A. or Ph.D. in the relevant area of Counseling or Psychology. Experience teaching at the graduate level or at least 3 years of experience as a practicing clinician (i.e., MFT, PCC, MSW, Clinical or Counseling Psychologist).
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.d in Counseling or Psychology is highly desirable. A successful record of teaching experience at the graduate level. Current license in Marriage and Family Therapy or Clinical Counseling or Psychology. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, multicultural/international competence, social justice, clinical expertise, and familiarity with counseling & psychological theory and practice.
