Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Retail Dining Services Supervisor position. The Retail Dining Services Supervisor is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $20.93 per hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

This position is eligible for a bonus of up to $1,500.00 payable upon completion of 3 months of service.

The Retail Supervisor supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services in providing the diverse campus community with excellent service and production of our menu items. The supervisor will manage the operations, menu and preparation, casual, full-time and student staff, as well as the standards for menu preparation. The supervisor will ensure that service and sanitation protocols are being met including cleaning and sanitizing all equipment, sweeping, moping, table wiping, trash and recycling removal. Responsibilities will also include adhering to established standards as well as daily reconciling of cash and credit card receipts.

The work schedule varies and corresponds to the College's operational needs, but generally is Sunday - Thursday 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm Our work is central to student life and their needs occur at a variety of times throughout the day, week, and year and as such, a flexible schedule with extended shift times is required. In addition, the position is designated as providing essential services and may be required to report to work, or remain on duty even when the College is closed.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Sets up counters, prepares all necessary items for services i.e. coffee brewing, etc., takes customer orders and prepares the food as orders are received. Stocks all needed items. Engage with customers by promoting local foods and newly featured menu items. Serves food, hot and cold beverages to our guests, assures all areas are kept clean and sanitized. Effectively collaborates with a diverse group of colleagues and students.
  • Takes inventory, places food orders, retrieves supplies and restocks necessary food and beverage items as needed.
  • Supervise a diverse set of students, casual staff and full-time staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor and or manager on duty, including but not limited to, light cleaning, table wiping and other sanitation duties.
  • Communication and Workday Responsibility.
    • Regularly checking your amherst.edu email is required to stay up to date on college-wide and departmental communications. This includes communication by email, message boards and The Daily Mammouth. Important information is shared through these communications that affect your job and help you stay up to date on departmental-specific updates, upcoming meetings and events.
    • Learning and using Workday to manage clocking in and out for shifts, time off requests and all other functions required to manage your personal information.


Qualifications:

Required
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong time management skills including the ability to follow verbal and written communications.
  • Excellent customer service skills, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Able to work extra shifts and/or overtime if needed.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and lift test.
  • Commitment to effectively working with a diverse community.


Preferred
  • High school or vocational school diploma/certification or equivalent.
  • Previous food preparation and service experience.
