Asst Coach-Women's Volleyball

About the Opportunity

Summary

The responsibilities of the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach include assisting the Head Coach with every aspect of a highly competitive NCAA Division I program. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for daily recruiting efforts including the evaluation of talent, coordination of depth charts, planning of trips for staff and PSAs, general correspondence and all things connected to identifying elite athletes. This position requires extensive travel for competition in season and for recruiting out of season, including numerous weekends and some holidays. The Assistant Coach position aids in all aspects of practice and match preparation including drill design and implementation, game day setup, as well as coordination with sports information, marketing and promotions. Other responsibilities include team travel planning, receipt reconciliation, equipment purchasing and oversight, video breakdown, fundraising activities, alumni outreach, preseason housing and meals, staff meetings, and other administrative duties as designated by the head coach. The successful candidate must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all University, CAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required. Candidates with coaching experience at the Division I level are preferable. Those with playing experience at the same level or internationally will also be favored. A thorough and demonstrable knowledge of recruiting practices and NCAA rules is critical. Excellent organizational, communicative, and time management skills as well as the ability to take on multiple tasks and work independently or in a team setting are needed. The candidate must be willing to work nights, weekends and some holidays as well as be available for extensive travel.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Administrative and Operational duties: Organize team travel, equipment ordering, scheduling, alumni relations, and fund-raising events. Also attend staff meetings and rules education, oversee work-study positions, and perform other miscellaneous administrative duties assigned by the head coach.
  • Coaching Responsibilities: Assist in practice planning and implementation as well as game day preparations and decisions. Capable of small group and individual training. Also scouting of opponents in person and through video including video breakdown with GameBreaker software.
  • Professionalism: Display professionalism, good judgment and support of department mission and goals. Adherence to our core values: leadership, critical thinking, coach as educator, appreciation of difference, and community service. Serve as an effective role model for our student-athletes. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and understanding of and follow all applicable NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.
  • Recruiting: Communicate with recruits and club coaches through email and phone calls as well as organize official and unofficial visits. Set up official and un-official visits with prospective student-athletes and their families. Travel to club tournaments to scout players all over the nation and manage information with ARMS recruiting management and University Athlete software.
