Postdoctoral Research Associate

About the Opportunity

SUMMARY:

The Brown Lab at Northeastern University is looking for an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research in nanomaterials formulation and nano-biological interactions in the areas of drug delivery of PARP inhibitors and immune modulators for the treatment of BRCA-deficient breast and ovarian cancer. Our lab is part of the Nanomedicine Innovation Center at Northeastern University. The research is funded by several CDMRP grants and builds strong collaborations with researchers and clinicians at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with a focus on providing the missing platforms necessary for clinical translation of small molecules.

The project will intersect the interdisciplinary fields of nanomedicine and immuno-oncology with a focus on how nanomaterials can be engineered for drug delivery of clinically relevant small molecules for DNA damage and immune response activation. As a member of the research team, the fellow will actively pursue research under the supervision of the principal investigator while developing expertise for independent work and promote innovation of ideas. Our lab is seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate who will contribute to our goal of translational research and discovery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Formulation and characterization of biodegradable implants and nanoparticles (microfluidics, HPLC, SEM/TEM, DLS/zeta, etc)
  • Conduct cell-based and molecular biology research aimed at understanding the biological response of nanomaterials and tumor/immune cells (western blot, MTS, PCR, confocal microscopy, etc)
  • Conduct in vivo studies to understand the impact of nanoformulated drug delivery platforms on survival, toxicity, biodistribution, immune infiltration (flow cytometry), immunohistochemistry, etc
  • Prepare and publish high-impact scientific manuscripts with opportunities to participate in proposal development and present work at national conferences
  • Develop expertise in desired lab skills/informatics/physics/clinical research. Develop proficiency in necessary research tools and equipment.
  • Supervision and training of graduate (Ph.D. & M.S.) and undergraduate (B.S.) students
  • Build on existing clinical collaborations with surrounding hospitals and research institutes

Northeastern University is located in Boston, Massachusetts, the medical research epicenter of the country and has established itself as a pioneer in nanomedicine education and research. The University has established one-of-a-kind Master's and Certificate degree programs in Nanomedicine and an NSF funded undergraduate co-op program focused on cancer nanomedicine in collaboration with the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. NEU is conveniently located within a few miles of several hospitals, research centers, and universities including but not limited to Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Medical School, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Science, or relevant area, is required. Must have research experience in nanomaterials and nanoparticle formulations, characterization and imaging, and cell and animal studies, for medical applications. Must have demonstrated ability to interact with and train graduate (Ph.D. and M.S.) and undergraduate (B.S.) students.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to the successful candidate. Experience in writing proposals and project management experience are pluses. Ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers from different fields. Be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship and work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
