Job Summary

The position of Program Manager in the ADA Compliance unit of the OIEC at the University of Colorado Boulder supports the compliance mission of the ADA Coordinator's office to help ensure adherence to Titles I and II of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
This position will share responsibility for educating the campus community and promoting equal access and opportunity for those with disabilities. This position will also be primarily responsible for providing reasonable accommodations for all employees at the university, including permanent faculty and staff, research faculty, temporary employees, and student employees. Additionally, this position will operate within a team of campus partners to addresses the structural accessibility needs of the campus community (in partnership with Facilities Management and Housing Facilities Services) and the access needs of the public (in partnership with various departments).

ADA Compliance is a unit within the OIEC that is responsible for compliance with civil rights laws and university policy related primarily to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act. ADA Compliance is charged with ensuring individuals with disabilities receive access, support, and, when appropriate, reasonable accommodations in compliance with federal and Colorado civil rights laws to ensure that qualified individuals with disabilities enjoy the same educational and employment opportunities and access available to non-disabled persons.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

ADA Title I Employment Program:
  • Responsible for administration of accommodation requests for employees with disabilities and pregnant employees. This includes engaging in the interactive accommodation process with employees and departments, reviewing and evaluating medical information in accordance with the ADA, determining reasonable accommodations, being responsible for implementation of reasonable accommodations, and engaging in follow up as necessary to ensure proper accommodation. Must be capable of working well on teams and must demonstrate appropriate sensitivity when discussing medical issues with employees and maintain confidentiality as necessary.
  • Draft documentation outlining accommodation decisions and manage applicable case records. Advise campus departments/supervisors on approaching disability-related or pregnancy-related issues in employment context and train on related topics as appropriate. Represent ADA Compliance Unit during Reasonable Employer Process meetings and manage “return to work” cases.
ADA Title II Access Program:
  • Represents ADA Compliance Unit and attends and provides guidance at various campus committee meetings. This may include among others the Sub-Committee for Digital Accessibility meetings, Commencement Committee meetings, and the Housing Accommodations Committee. Provides informal consultation to campus departments requesting accessibility advice.
  • Shared responsibilities for interpreting and captioning coordination as well as answering ADA phone lines and providing sufficient information for appropriate referrals.
  • Shared responsibility for ensuring compliance with accessibility for event access. This includes: commencement access: ASL, captioning, seating, flooring, transportation, and brochures; conducting walk-throughs for departments hosting events; and reviewing and revising websites for departments.
  • Shared responsibility for assessing accessibility for special events hosted on campus through CU Presents. This includes: Macky Auditorium, Department of Theatre & Dance, College of Music (including Artist Series, Takacs Quartet, Opera Program), and Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
Training, Education, and Outreach:
  • Provides training and educational forums to members of the campus community on various aspects of Title I & II ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as needed. Seeks out areas where additional training is required and where new relationships can be built and identifies areas where existing relationships should be strengthened.
What You Should Know
  • At this time the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance is operating in a flexible model with majority of operations occurring remotely. While the majority of the responsibilities of this position can be performed remotely, a crucial function of this position includes regular, reliable, and predictable availability for virtual or in-person communications and participation in meetings between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. MST, Monday through Friday. This position requires face to face meetings with employees, supervisors, visitors, the ability to provide in-person education to the campus community, along with the ability to provide on-site reviews of campus buildings and spaces to ensure accessibility and compliance with the ADA.
What We Can Offer
  • Starting salary range is $55,000 to $65,000.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • One year of case management experience strongly preferred. Preferably related to disability accommodations, FMLA, Workers Compensation or leave programs, or other ADA or disability-related work experience.
  • Experience working in a compliance role.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Specific coursework related to equitable access, the ADA, or employment discrimination is also preferred.
