The Payne Family Library at Missoula College invites applications for a Library Technician II to provide library support for faculty, staff, and students. As the two-year unit of the University of Montana, Missoula College provides outstanding occupational and technical education covering 40 programs. The Payne Family Library serves as a community hub for Missoula College students, providing access to collections, technology, and study/meeting spaces, and the Library Technician II plays an integral role in the ongoing success and well-being of this community. Specifically, the individual in this position provides in-person library services and access to materials in a variety of formats and engages with library users on a daily basis. The person in this position should be detail-oriented, empathetic, able to prioritize and multitask, work productively both individually and as a team member, and communicate effectively in person and in writing.

This individual:
  • Assists library users in a variety of library service areas including Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Reference and Technical Support.
  • Helps to ensure the safety and security of the library, collections and occupants.
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints, explains and administers Library policies, and resolves conflicts and problem-solves without direct supervision.
  • Performs complex circulation functions and makes decisions about exceptional circumstances regarding patron accounts, fines and fees, check out and renewals.
  • Opens and closes the library.
  • Performs accurate cash handling.

  • Ability to answer questions from a diverse population that may require extensive and complex consultation of standard resources.
  • Ability to stand, sit, move around the library, lift and shelve books, and push loaded book carts which requires mobility and physical demands.
Minimum Required Experience
  • High school diploma and one (1) year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Position Details

Position Title: Library Technician II

Work Schedule: Part-time 0.5 FTE (20 Hours a week),

Monday through Friday

Salary: $16.275/hr Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
