Administrative Faculty Program Associate

Bursar’s Office



Central Connecticut State University invites applications for an Administrative Faculty Program Associate within the Bursar’s Office. This position is responsible for reviewing outstanding balances as well as payments of overdue accounts. In addition, referring customers to appropriate contacts and responding to student inquiries to help resolve account delinquencies.

Supervision Received:

Works under the immediate supervision of an employee of higher grade.

Supervision Exercised:

Incumbents of this class are not assigned lead or supervisory duties. Incumbents may provide basic direction to Student Workers, Graduate Assistants, Graduate Interns, and/or Cooperative Educational Interns.

Position Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of basic operational duties in the Bursars office.

Performs a variety of increasingly difficult duties as knowledge, skills, and abilities are acquired of unit and/or programmatic operations, processes and procedures.

Participates and assists in a variety of learning and outreach opportunities such as various programs and events pertaining to the department including Recruitment Fairs, Admitted Students Day, Commencement, Student Fairs and Orientations.

May assist employees of a higher grade in the completion of routine assignments such as planning, coordinating, preparing, and executing services completing special projects and other day to day functions that may arise.

May conduct outreach and or other customer service functions.

May draft correspondence or other communications including media.

May provide basic direction or support to Students Workers, Graduate Assistants, Graduate Interns, and/or Cooperative Educational Interns.

May collect, analyze and maintain data, databases and other record keeping; prepare and present reports.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities attributed to a formal educational program of study:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply principles and practices of Bursar’s Office;
  • Demonstrated technical skills;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Federal and State laws and regulations as well as University and BOR/CSCU policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices of designated unit and/or program;
  • Considerable ability to use appropriate equipment, computerized systems, platforms and software;
  • Considerable interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Considerable oral and written communication skills;
  • Considerable ability to collect, analyze and prepare data;
  • Considerable ability to prepare reports and other materials.
Work Environment:

Incumbents typically perform their work indoors, on campus, and in-person; may be required to work evenings and weekends; may be required to work outdoors; may be required to lift equipment, educational, training or other materials; may be exposed to some risk of injury from equipment and/or in the engagement in technical services.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in related area.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the performance of entry level duties as assigned to designated unit and/or program.
  • Note: Graduate Intern and/or Graduate Assistant experience in the area of study and/or practice of the designated unit and/or program shall be prorated as appropriate.
  • Substitution Allowed: Successful completion of an approved Administrative Faculty Trainee program shall substitute for minimal qualifications. Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.
  • Certifications and successful completion of training programs may be required prior to or during appointment.

The Community: Located nine miles southwest of Hartford, New Britain is a city of approximately 72,000. Part of the Greater Hartford area of 1.2 million residents, New Britain is centrally located in the state and is within easy reach of much of Connecticut and several metropolitan areas. Nicknamed “the Hardware City” for its rich industrial heritage, it is home to Stanley Black & Decker. Important cultural institutions include the New Britain Museum of American Art and Walnut Hill Park, designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead. New Britain’s population is characterized by a high degree of racial and ethnic diversity. Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates 70% of the population as White, 13% as Black or African American, 3% as Asian, and 0.2% as American Indian or Alaska Native. Currently 4.6% of New Britain’s population identify themselves in more than one racial category and 43% of New Britain’s population identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino. Fifty percent (50%) speak a language other than English in the home and 19% were born internationally. Significant portions of its population come from Puerto Rico and Poland or consider themselves to be from the African-American, Italian, or Irish ethnic backgrounds. In addition to all that greater Hartford provides, New Britain is 40 minutes from Springfield, Massachusetts two hours from Boston, and two hours from New York City. It is also part of the Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor” and, therefore, within easy driving distance of a host of private and public institutions of higher education and many cultural opportunities.

The Administrative Faculty Program Associate is compensated at the Administrator 2 salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF) Collective Bargaining Union Agreement.
