The Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. Expertise is required in the specific area of olfactory modulation of cognition and emotion, as well as ex vivo and in vivo electrophysiology, viral tracing, optogenetics, chemogenetics, genetics, and behavioral manipulations in mice. Proficiency in stereotactic surgeries and fluorescence imaging is also important. Finally, an understanding of the literature underlying the cellular and circuit mechanisms associated with the olfactory system, prefrontal cortex, respiration, and adaptive behavior is desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include conducting independent and collaborative research using advanced molecular, cellular, and circuit manipulations to examine the effects of the olfactory system and nasal breathing on mouse behavior, training lab personnel, and obtaining extramural funding. A strong record of original peer-reviewed publications, mentoring, communication, and interpersonal skills is also required.
