Description
The Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is pleased to invite applications from creative, highly-qualified, and motivated scholars for a postdoctoral position in ethics and biotechnology.
At CWRU, there are many opportunities and efforts underway on our campus and with external partners to ensure that our faculty, staff, and students are contributing to the cutting edge of innovation while maintaining the highest ethical standards and fully exploring the ethical dimensions and human impact of everything that we create. This position is intended to bring someone to the Inamori Center to assist in these efforts and help ensure that our community and our partners, at every level, are engaged in meaningful and productive reflection and discussions of ethical issues and are integrating and embedding ethical considerations into every aspect of their research and development work. The Scholar will:
- Contribute to local and international research and curricular development initiatives (e.g. one grant-based initiative involves the utilization of artificial blood, which will account for 20-25% of the Scholar’s effort);
Qualifications
- Competence in ethics, especially applied ethics, grounded in philosophy.

Position Details
There is a one-year term for this position, although it is subject to renewal for a second year, conditional on the availability of funding and performance during the first year. The Scholar is expected to be in residence and to maintain a full-time schedule and an on-campus presence (hybrid work options are available).
The position offers a competitive salary; vacation and sick time; and medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The stipend for the position will be commensurate with the National Research Service Awards (NRSA) levels. We also provide a research allowance of up to $1,000 for approved expenses directly related to your work, such as travel, books, and research assistance.
The term of the position will commence sometime between July 1st and August 1, 2023. A review of applications will begin the week of May 22nd. Candidates should submit their applications no later than June 15, 2023.
