Position Announcement

Serve as an academic advisor for TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) students and coordinate the tutoring component of the SSS program. TRiO is a federally-funded student services grant program designed to identify and provide services for Utah Tech students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program specifically serves low-income and first-generation students, and/or students with documented disabilities complete an associate degree and continue to earn a bachelor degree. Responsibilities
  • Provide academic, career, and personal advising for SSS students. Interview and assess the needs of potential SSS project participants. Assist students with financial aid information and maintain academic progress information for each project participant.
  • Interview and assess the needs of potential participants and monitor student performance and assist SSS participants with a Student Graduation Plan (SGP) and ensure that student contracts are met. Enter student contacts and other information in Blumen and Navigate-EAB. Keep tutoring records on students needing and receiving assistance.
  • Teach SSS courses (SSC 2001, 2002, 2003) to program participants and provide appropriate support services (e.g., time management, study skills instruction, financial literacy, tutoring, major selection, career awareness, test taking strategies, etc.).
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise SSS tutors. Coordinate students' needs and tutors' specialties and times. Keep tutoring records on students receiving services. Monitor tutoring budget and tutoring payroll and report monthly to program director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Four years' experience working in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting required.
  • Two years teaching and classroom management experience required.
  • Knowledge of Utah Tech University's General Education requirements.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary educational opportunities.
  • Knowledge of FAFSA and student financial aid.
  • Knowledge of creating a Student Gradation Plans (SGP) for project participants.
  • Ability to interpret assessment data.
  • Ability to recruit, hire, train and supervise tutors.
  • Familiar with University operating systems (Banner/EAB).
  • Familiar with Excel and running program reports and budgets.
  • Experience in working with members of underrepresented populations as exemplified by project participants.
  • Respect for all individuals and positive attitude toward capacity of disadvantaged youth to succeed in post-secondary education.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time 11-month (0.92 FTE) or 12-month (1.0 FTE) professional staff (overtime-exempt) position, contingent upon federal grant funding. Annual salary of $38,000+ for Bachelor's degree-qualified applicants and $41,000+ for Master's degree-qualified applicants, depending on FTE, start date, and grant funding availability. Desired start date of July 17, 2023.
