The Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies (AET) in the School of Design and Creative Technologies (SDCT) at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a faculty colleague with a focus in Immersive Media. This is a non-tenure track position at rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. Salary commensurate with experience. Position requires relocation to Austin, TX.

Responsibilities

Faculty responsibilities include:

  • Developing and teaching both solo and interdisciplinary team-taught undergraduate courses at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels.
  • Overseeing and coordinating courses and curricula that prepare students for careers and integrate with the various disciplines practiced in AET and SDCT; cultivate clear student outcomes and promote an inclusive student experience. Collaborating within the college/university for interdisciplinary goals.
  • Collaborating with the community/industry for student career opportunities.
  • Service activities such as department, college, and university committees.
  • Supporting and advising students on senior projects, independent studies, honors coursework, student showcase, and other culminating activities.
  • Teaching interdisciplinary team-taught courses which enroll students from multiple specializations and/or university departments.
  • Teaching courses in various formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, or online, with small and large enrollment.
  • Teaching accessible, inclusive, and diversity-aware content in courses.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must hold a terminal degree in your field by date of hire, OR possess a record of equivalent professional experience or creative achievement.

Demonstrate expertise in:

  • Working with students or communities underrepresented in video games, user interface design, or related professional fields.
  • Development and execution of public events that integrate visualization, virtual and augmented reality, experience design, storytelling, physical computing, audio, video, lighting, interactivity, and other forms of immersive media for entertainment or commercial purposes.
  • Integrating creative coding and sensor/sensing technologies such as motion capture, live data, digital/physical space, and live human performance.
  • Developing and building custom electronics and physical fabrication for live/interactive experiences.
  • Industry standard processes and collaborations with practitioners from disciplines such as Digital Experience Design, Immersive Media, Themed Entertainment, and Immersive Art.
  • Developing coursework and/or teaching materials for beginning through advanced college-age learners.
