Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University invites applications for an assistant professor of journalism.
We seek a promising scholar with potential for impactful scholarship and innovative teaching. This tenure-track position is open to the full range of journalism scholars. Quantitative, qualitative, critical/cultural and/or mixed methods approaches are welcome. There is no preferred theoretical framework. Scholarship should focus on some intriguing aspect of modern journalism production and/or media effects, particularly as they pertain to emerging media formats, democratic norms and/or traditionally marginalized communities.
The 3/3 courseload would blend existing journalism courses on public affairs reporting, copy editing and/or mobile and social media journalism with new classes created and launched by the assistant professor. The position may also teach graduate courses in our M.A. in Emerging and Social Media program.
The position begins in Fall 2024.
