Biology Guest Faculty 2023-2024

Rank: Guest Faculty
Tenure Information: Non-Tenure Track

Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College Department of Biology seeks guest faculty to teach two semester-long courses in the general fields of Marine Biology, Animal Behavior or related areas over the 2023-2024 academic year. The specific focus of each course can be proposed by the instructor with approval by the department. Candidates interested in teaching one or both courses are encouraged to apply.

Each course requires two full days on campus and is compensated as a half-time faculty appointment. Courses are capped at 15 students and are comprised of a seminar class (typically meeting 2x/week) and biweekly meetings with individual students to work on a semester-long independent project. Therefore, we seek instructors dedicated to developing the research, writing, and analytical skills of their students in addition to imparting the material of their discipline. Students at SLC do not declare majors, and are encouraged to explore coursework in diverse disciplines in order to obtain a rich liberal arts education. Therefore, these courses, like many in the Sarah Lawrence curriculum, will ideally be taught at the “open” level, meaning all students, regardless of past coursework, will be eligible to enroll. As they prepare their applications, candidates are encouraged to consult the SLC course catalog to view the style and content of course descriptions,
Application materials must include: (1) cover letter including which course(s) you are interested in teaching and in which semester; (2) CV; (3) statement of teaching philosophy including your how consideration of diversity, equity, and inclusion informs your teaching; (4) descriptions of the course(s) you would like to teach including any texts you would use; and (5) names and contact information for three references.

Compensation will be 10.5K-14K a course a semester, based on teaching experience.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
