The University of Washington’s Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time physician specializing in corneal disease.  This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center. This position is without tenure due to funding, and is a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Anticipated start date is fall 2023.

This appointment may be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to source of funding, and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered. This position is a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointment that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-Jun 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary for this position will be Assistant Professors MD $17,000 to $21,667 per month ($204,000 - $260,004 annually) or Associate Professor MD $19,167 to $24,167 per month ($230,004 to $290,004 annually) or Professor MD $22,500 to $26,667 per month ($270,000 - $320,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through University of Washington Physicians (UWP) practice plan in additional to base salary provided by the university.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in the University benefit determinations and calculations.  Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through University of Washington Physicians practice plan.  Incentive is inclusive of variable incentive, Monthly or Semi-Annual additional compensation (MAC/SAAC).

Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training including both medical and surgical training and teaching of medical students. 

Candidates will be expected to provide medical and surgical cornea care, including treatment of consult and emergency patients and surgery at the University of Washington affiliated sites of practice which include Harborview Medical Center, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and UW Medical Centers.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in substantial teaching and scholarly research in academic ophthalmology.  Protected time for academic endeavors will be provided.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent) and one or more years of postgraduate training in the management of corneal disease and surgery.  

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required.  Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board Eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
