The Lead and Influence Foundational Education (LIFE) Core Curriculum at St. Catherine University invites applications for Adjunct Faculty for the 2023-2024 academic year. The Lead and Influence Foundational Education (LIFE) Core Curriculum is the foundation of undergraduate education at St. Catherine University, as well as the manifestation of the University's women-centered mission to educate the next generation of leaders by developing their full potential as confident, insightful, and collaborative problem solvers capable of applying the concepts and methods of the Liberal Arts toward the work of social justice in their communities and the world. Adjunct opportunities include teaching either of two discussion-based, writing-intensive courses, both capped at 20 students per section and offered in either in-person or online formats:
  • CORE 1000W “The Reflective Woman” (TRW) is required for all first-year students in the College for Women and the College for Adults. TRW uses a shared set of readings and writing assignments to foster critical thinking, reflection, communication, and other foundational academic skills.
  • CORE 3990W “Global Search for Justice” (GSJ) builds on TRW by inviting students to examine an issue, selected by the instructor, through a social justice lens, culminating in a substantial written project.

Applicants must have a master's degree in hand (or be enrolled in a doctoral program with master's level equivalency) by no later than two weeks before the first day of classes for the term. In addition, because these courses are intended for all undergraduate students regardless of major, applicants should have expertise or experience teaching similar discussion-based, writing-intensive courses. Applicants with a doctoral or terminal degree and/or two years experience teaching such courses are preferred. Responsibilities for adjunct faculty course instructors:

  • Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in in-person or online environments.
  • Develop and demonstrate learner-centered strategies aligned with the University's commitment to Inclusive Excellence.
  • Provide timely and frequent feedback to students on their progress toward student learning outcomes.
  • Refer students to support services as appropriate.
  • Establish office hours to accommodate student needs.
  • Attend faculty development workshops.
