The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle is now hiring an Assistant Director of Residential Life at the Daytona Beach campus. This is a live-on position and the staff member will be provided with a university apartment. Responsibilities include the following:

Staff Supervision and Development
  • Direct supervision of 5 full time Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs). Each RLC is responsible for managing a residence hall building area of 500-1000 residential students. Each RLC supervises 12-26 Resident Advisors and/or Graduate Assistants.
  • Facilitating weekly one on one meetings, bi-weekly staff meetings, training and on-going development of full time staff, evaluating staff on a semester and yearly basis.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to full-time staff on individual and team issues, problems and concerns.
  • Indirectly supervises 100 resident advisors and graduate assistants; assumes direct oversight of a residential area in the absence of a RLC.
  • Provide corrective feedback and written accountability for staffing concerns and employment policy violations. Consults with the Associate Director of Residential Education on involuntary separation from the university.
  • Manages the RLC on call schedule and communicates the schedule and any changes to the department and campus partners.
  • Provides training to RLCs in consultation with the Directors of Residential Education and Residential Administration.
Student Development and Residential Curriculum Implementation
  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, development, and assessment of educational priorities and learning objectives for the department curriculum.
  • Serves as the primary author of all residential curriculum facilitation guides.
  • Design and create the outline for RA and resident student interactions.
  • Responsible for the creation and execution of curriculum related programs and activities in collaboration with the Residential Education Team and relevant campus partners.
  • Assigns activity and program responsibilities to appropriate team members and ensures completion of responsibilities.
  • Maintains relationships with campus partners while also identify opportunities for new partnerships.
  • Maintains high visibility in the residence halls by completing monthly area/facility tours and attending programs and activities at the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Education.
Administration
  • Communicate and respond to student and parent/guardian concerns and questions.
  • Compiling, organizing, and sharing a yearly curriculum plan as part of the departments annual calendar of events.
  • Adjudicate student conduct violations for mid-level residential policy violations. This includes facilitating pre-hearing conferences, hearings, determining responsibility, and assigning educational sanctions.
  • Oversee the management of eRezLife software including tracking of program and event data, intentional interaction feedback and concerns, assessing needs based on data, and compiling staff performance evaluations.
  • Attend weekly and bi-weekly staff meetings, weekly one on one meetings with the Associate Director of Residential Education, and committee meetings as assigned by department leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the mid-level managers leadership team.
  • Ensures all university employment responsibilities are complete including monitoring of personal leave, mandatory university trainings, and Purchasing card use (if applicable).
Crisis Response and Management
  • Participate in the department on-call crisis response and management rotation. This occurs on average once every 5 weeks. The on-call period is for 24 hours a day for 1 full week. The purpose of the on-call staff member is to provide guidance and support to the RLC on-call staff regarding the response to emergencies that occur after hours including but not limited to conflicts, medical emergencies, alcohol and other drug situations in the residence halls, and maintenance concerns.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in student support: housing and residence life.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with residential curriculum or community development models.
  • Experience with software for residential/community engagement.
