Responsibilities:
The Department of Art at Delta State University invites actively engaged artists to apply for a tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Sculpture. Two-years teaching experience and strong evidence of a developed professional studio career is preferred but not required. This full-time appointment offers a competitive salary and benefits package and will commence August 2023. Applicants with diverse cultural, ethnic and national perspectives are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will have or show potential for having a national or international record of excellence in creative practice, innovative research, substantive scholarship and effective teaching. All candidates should have a strong interest in collaborative work as well as experience in, or a commitment to, working with diverse student populations in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ideal candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses, mentor students within the context of an interdisciplinary art and design program and advise graduate students in MFA in Studio Art (Low-Residency) program.
Teaching responsibilities include three-dimensional design, low & upper-level sculpture courses, possibility of teaching Furniture Design, serve on department and university committees, advise students, and assist with other departmental duties. Candidate is expected to represent the Art Department on the DSU Sculpture Garden Committee providing oversight and assistance in sculpture Installations as necessary.
The position carries a 3:3 teaching load and the expectation of service to the department and the university. Upper-level courses may be stacked and some independent studies may be included. In addition to our Art majors, these courses may also interest students from across the university. The candidate will maintain sculpture facilities and equipment, keep an active professional practice and research, and participate in the university community.
