Classification Salary Range:
The CSU salary range for this position is $4,369 - $8,429 per month.

About the Department/Position:
Under the supervision of the Director of Health Services or designee, according to established protocols or as directed by a clinician (physician or nurse practitioner), performs a variety of skilled and semi-professional nursing duties and gives direct patient care to students.
Specialized materials utilized: Autoclave, audiometer, EKG, medical equipment (syringes, vials, tubing, needles, etc.), nebulizer treatment, ear lavage set up, splints, and personal computer.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- By use of special skills and independent judgment, assesses patient needs and decides regarding course of care.
- Assists with patient preparation and treatment prepares for and assists with patient examination and/or treatment
- Assists clinician with procedures and gives treatment as ordered by clinician (electrocardiogram, vision and hearing screening tests, dressing change, heat and cold modalities, splinting, injection, venipuncture, TB skin test, immunization, oxygen, and similar tasks as assigned).
- Counsels' patients on a wide variety of health topics (e.g., immunizations, allergies, sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, and contraception.
- Conducts quality control procedures on specific Student Health Center equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of a professional nursing program in an approved school of nursing or by additional preparation as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Possess and maintain a valid California RN license and certification in CPR/AED.
- Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience which has provided evidence of the ability to work independently in specialized nursing activities and to support the overall nursing program within the SHC; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provided the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of medical terminology and equipment; thorough knowledge of uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.
- Ability to observe and record or respond with therapy to reactions, symptoms, and behaviors.
- Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and to take prompt action
- Must possess broader and specialized nursing knowledge that supports the performance of specialized duties in such areas as, but not limited to, triage and assessment, patient counseling, and staffing nursing clinics, broader knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocols.
- Quickly learn related clinic procedures and to handle equipment required for patient care in a Student Health Center
- Technical skills required to perform patient care procedures; sterile technique, current health and safety requirements and procedures for biomedical hazardous waste disposal; basic medications and their effects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional consideration will be given to applicants demonstrating any of the following preferred skills and experience: current CPR certification; coursework in physical assessment; knowledge of specialized health education topics; American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR instructor certification; one (1) year or more experience in a college health center or emergency care facility; one (1) year of professional nursing experience which has given evidence of the ability to work independently or work in specialized nursing activities.
