Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling.

OR

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area

OR

the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within within the classroom.

(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Desirable Qualifications:
Two years of experience, including both counseling and teaching.

Demonstrated knowledge and competency of community college counseling with specific knowledge in areas such as transfer and articulation, probation, career and technical education, STEM, and other unique areas of counseling.

Demonstrated knowledge of career development counseling theory/principles and the use of career assessment tools.

Experience counseling, coordinating, and/or working with varied student populations, such as student athletes, STEM students, Puente, and/or working with student support programs for at risk and/or disproportionately impacted students and creating equitable outcomes for all students.

Knowledge and understanding of state initiatives such as AB19 and Guided Pathways.

Demonstrated success in supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, using culturally responsive pedagogical techniques.
