The AUC Libraries and Learning Technologies School holds the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral leader of the University's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. LLT holds an array of primary materials, archives, special collections, rare books, and AUC records that are critical to research in the many areas of study and are of great importance to researchers in the region and abroad. LLT is a teaching unit with a Library Instruction Course that is a pass-fail core requirement for all undergraduate students at AUC and it is part of the AUC liberal arts core. All AUC graduates are expected to have passed the LALT course to complete graduation, regardless of their field of studies. LALT 1020, the core requirement library instruction course, is central to the student success work conducted by LLT. The course is an opportunity to further student success, graduate work, and lifelong learning in a global society were information is fundamental in private and professional realms.


Job Description:

  • Lead the entire range of in-person and virtual research, instruction and support services, providing high quality and timely services.
  • Develops the strategic plan, objectives, KPIs of the instruction, research and service units
  • Develop, interpret and enforce operating policies, practices and procedures in supporting and optimizing services and operating efficiencies.
  • Supervise and lead professional and paraprofessional staff; prepare individual goals and objectives, administer performance reviews. Assure equity in task assignment and expectations of results.
  • Lead in the planning, design, coordination, delivery, promotion, and assessment of the library's online and in person instructional and research services
  • Develop innovative and engaging information literacy programs that incorporate student learning outcomes, active learning strategies, and assessment and integrates information literacy into academic and special programs.
  • Oversee the creation of online research tools and guides that facilitate library usage
  • Provide leadership in applying existing and emerging research and best practices for instructional technologies.
  • Evaluate and improve the quality of services, effectiveness and technical proficiency of staff within the operating areas.
  • Identify and create new services that meet the demands of a diverse community
  • Provide guidance and counsel on information and research policy including, but not limited to, copyright and intellectual property to the university community.
  • Leads the development and promotion of bibliometric services and resources and collaborates with a wide range of institutional stakeholders in data analysis in support of strategic requests from leadership
  • Coordinate library liaison assignments to academic departments and supports librarians as they engage in liaison activities and research support
  • Collaborate with all LLT units, directors of the university's academic and student support services to expand opportunities and address user needs
  • Oversees the compilation, analysis, and reporting on statistical data regarding research, services and instruction and other data gathering for annual reports as needed
  • Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, interlibrary organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops.
  • Serve as a member of the Libraries' Leadership and Planning Team: School Council, LLT FAC/Dept Heads committees, sharing in policy-making decisions, planning, and management responsibilities



Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an American Library Association-accredited graduate program or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years of academic library experience related to public services including research, teaching, services and outreach.
  • A minimum of three years of significant progressively increasing supervisory or administrative library experience with responsibility in areas related to public services including research reference, teaching, and outreach
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build positive working relationships with colleagues and peers.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and developments in Information Literacy best practices, strategies, methodologies and trends within library instruction, and open educational resources
  • Knowledge of instructional design and principles of learning.
  • Experience with assessment of library instruction services and research activities.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and techniques to lead teams across units
  • Demonstrated commitment to user-centered services for students, faculty, and staff.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of research instruction and library services. The jobholder will lead a team of professional and paraprofessional librarians to develop and deliver high quality services, instruction, and research support to the AUC community and beyond and promote Library's commitment to support teaching, learning, and research
