Overview of Upward Bound Math Science Faculty Fellow

The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science programs are pre-college programs geared towards providing opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their high education pursuits. The Upward Bound programs are dedicated to providing low-income, first-generation high school students with the motivational and educational skills necessary for a successful post-secondary education.

Summary and Description of Upward Bound Math Science Faculty Fellow

Job Summary: The Upward Bound Math/Science Faculty Fellow Position is a three month position to serve during the Summer of the academic year and design instrumental programming and access to career resources for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Math/Science Program at PNW. The position is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position. The total compensation for the three month period is $15,000.

Job Description: The Upward Bound Faculty Fellow will have the opportunity to create a not-for-credit academic curriculum designed to engage first-generation high school students in STEM topics during a 4-8 week summer camp sponsored by the Upward Bound Math/Science program grant. The successful candidate should be prepared to design creative, stimulating STEM-related activities and projects that will excite high school age students about STEM fields and help them see their own potential to pursue STEM careers. The completed curriculum will be implemented in Summer 2024. The faculty fellow will have preferential consideration among applicants to deliver the curriculum in future Summer semesters.

Education of Upward Bound Math Science Faculty Fellow
  • Master’s degree required. PhD preferred
  • Purdue University Employee preferred but not required
  • Successful candidates will be required to have teaching experience in STEM discipline
  • Successful Candidates will be required to demonstrate understanding of first generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students in college
Experience of Upward Bound Math Science Faculty Fellow
  • This position is open to PNW instructional staff with full-time appointment at any rank
  • Successful candidates must have experience working with first generation and low-income students
