Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a full-time, live-in Resident Fellow (RF) to work within a division of Student Life.The RF position is a ten-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of July 17, that is dedicated to engendering a positive living community and experience conducive to students' holistic success, personal development, and well-being. This appointment will conclude on May 16, 2024. The work of the RF supports the collaborative approach to accomplishing these goals of the division. In their capacity, the RF will ultimately report to the Interim Dean of Well-Being and receive task supervision from the Directors, Associate Directors, and Senior Resident Fellows within the division.

Essential Duties Summary
GeneralGenerally, the RF will:
  • Support and steward a professional environment of personal growth, leadership development, and success through staff training sessions and meetings
  • Proactively help build a campus culture of safety, inclusion, respect, engagement, responsibility, and accountability
  • Support Resident Advisors (RAs) through year-long individual and collective mentorship to develop their professional and personal skills
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of fall and spring training for RAs



Residential EducationThe main focus of the Resident Fellow is to execute the functions of Residential Education that support the vision of well-being, including programming design and implementation, the student conduct process, and primary on-call rotation.In this capacity with Residential Life, the RF will:
  • Help lead the design and implementation of a Residential Education curriculum that focuses on enhancing the lived experience and well-being of residential students
  • Oversee Residential Education efforts implemented by the RAs by providing guidance and support in the design and implementation of residential programming and direct interactions with residents
  • Supervise the daily responsibilities of the RAs, including the planning and implementation of residential programming, fielding resident concerns, and assisting with housing operations
  • Help create and steward partnerships and collaboration with other offices and departments to enhance the Residential Education vision and implementation of the curriculum
  • Oversee the design and implementation of Residential Education initiatives to the residential community through non-programming channels
  • Assist with the RA recruiting and hiring process
  • Assist with communication and implementation of routine housing operations, including the housing process, resident move-in and move-out, Health and Safety inspections, etc.
  • Provide individual and group mediation to resolve roommate conflicts, and assist in the management and resolution of residential interpersonal and intergroup conflicts, beyond the scope of RA intervention
  • Act as a conduct officer for incidents reported within the residential community and in implementing educational and restorative objectives upon primary conduct offenses
  • Serve in a primary on-call rotation alongside the Senior Resident Fellows (SRFs) and other RFs during evenings and weekends to support the safety and well-being of students in any elevated incidental circumstances.
Student Life | Residential Life, Student Involvement and Leadership, Student DEIBThe secondary focus of the RF is to enrich the student experience and enhance well-being more holistically by supporting the visions, projects, and operations of the Offices of Student Involvement and Leadership; Student Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging; and Residential Life.In this broader capacity with Student Life, the RF will:
  • Help support, plan, and implement the visions, programs, and events hosted and sponsored by both the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership (OSIL) and Student DEIB
  • Collaborate with planning and implementing Student DEIB programming in residential and non-residential settings
  • Help support student DEIB groups, initiatives, spaces, and space leaders including the THRIVE Mentor Program, affinity group spaces, and the food sharing space
  • Serve on the Committee of Student Life
  • Supervise student-managed spaces
  • Assist with supporting and advising registered student organizations and student publications
  • Collaborate with the OSIL Graduate Assistant in Leadership on leadership programming
  • Oversee the publicity student workers


Required Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience working within residential communities
  • 1-2 years of experience in planning, coordinating, and/or directing college-level activities
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Motivated and specific interest in community building and working proactively toward enhancing the well-being of community members
  • Capability of, and comfort with, upholding and enforcing community standards, as well as the College’s Principles of Mutual Respect
  • A keen understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Computer and database literacy and ability to effectively utilize technology
  • Ability to effectively manage several concurrent and overlapping responsibilities
  • Proactive, thorough, and effective communication style
  • Comfort working and living in a professional and residential setting
  • A valid state driver’s license

Requirements for Employment
Effective October 15, 2021, all employees of Sarah Lawrence College must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
