Accountabilities

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Fellowship Advising, the ONFS Assistant Director helps provide the leadership and administration of Colgate University’s Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships ( ONFS ). The Assistant Director helps to manage all operations in the office, works closely with students to gain readiness and to apply to national fellowships, and fosters relationships with faculty and staff across the university to develop and oversee the recruitment and preparation of students applying for major fellowships, and advises and guides deliberations during faculty nomination committees.

Ensures effective and timely administration and tracking of all nominations and applications for nationally competitive fellowships, scholarships and grants. Shares responsibility with the Associate Dean for fostering student growth within the context of the fellowship and scholarship processes.

With the Associate Dean, is accountablefor integrative and holistic advising of students and alumni in all stages of exploration, application, interview and selection of grants, scholarships and fellowships. Also responsible for helping with the execution of fellowship grants.

Accountable for cultivating relationships and managing communication with faculty and administrators to recruit candidates, advise students, and advise on the writing of appropriate recommendation letters in fellowship contexts. Responsible for researching and promoting new and/or additional fellowship opportunities.

Accountable for the communications processes that the office uses to promote national fellowships. This includes raising awareness of fellowship opportunities and inspirational student stories among all relevant constituencies.

Accountable for continuing to expand outreach, promotion and access so that students may become aware of fellowship opportunities. Responsible for creating and maintaining productive and effective relationships with fellowship foundations and other sponsoring entities.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • A minimum of one year of related experience is required.
  • Strong editing, verbal and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students within a university setting.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications

One to three years of related experience is preferred.
For candidates with an advanced degree and considerable experience, early promotion may be possible.

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
A Master’s degree or terminal degree preferred.
