The Program of Social Sciences at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2023 to teach SSCI 301: Survey of Interdisciplinary Social Science. This course introduces students to the major foci, historical foundations, and the methods employed in the social sciences and teaches an interdisciplinary perspective in order to understand and respond to the central challenges encountered over the life course. The course fulfills a Diversity and Equity requirement and thus, focuses on how the social issues addressed are shaped by contemporary societal processes such as gender, race, class, and sexual preference.

Minimum qualifications:

• MA/MS
• Expertise and teaching experience in a field of the social sciences (e.g., Anthropology, Border Studies, Communication, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies)
• Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

• Ph.D. or equivalent
• Experience teaching upper-division courses in a related social science field (Anthropology, Border Studies, Communication, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies)
• Capacity to teach using interdisciplinary frameworks and/or perspectives
• Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530-$8,000 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,530-$11,994 per full-time month
