SALARY:

$60,000 - $74,900+ per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The System Administrator performs various technical and non-technical tasks associated with maintenance and security of company intranets and computer systems and is responsible for responding to RVU employee concerns and drafting documents to help employees use computer and audio/visual systems. Employee is expected to have an innovative mindset and execute independent judgment when offering solutions and troubleshooting computer and audio/visual systems.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Manages the day-to-day operations of the host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained via ticketing system. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
  2. Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff and RVU Employees in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
  3. Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
  4. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems. Provides server support related to other software.
  5. Establishes methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, disk arrays, fiber channel switches, tape libraries and other components.
  6. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
  7. Develops documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
  8. Develops tools, procedures, and training sessions.
  9. Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system.
  10. Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for the organization to take advantage of new technology.
  11. Provides Tier 2 support to issues escalated from Tier 1 Support.
  12. Provide subject matter expertise to assist in the development and delivery of training for end users with computer, software and audio/visual systems.
  13. Assist with setting up, adjusting and operating audio-visual equipment for class lectures and presentations including: lighting, projectors and various other types of audio-visual equipment.
  14. High level understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Audio Visual field.
  15. Builds strong business relationships with hardware, software vendors ensuring prompt reporting and resolution when hardware problems and or software problems arise requiring warranty/maintenance agreement repairs.
  16. Manage Active Directory, including Group Policy Management, user and group management, and domain administration.
  17. Collaborate with other IT teams, including network and security teams, to ensure smooth and secure operation of the IT infrastructure.
  18. Provides technical support to the student body.
  19. Design, implement, manage, administer, and support Microsoft Core Technologies with a primary emphasis on Microsoft Office 365 Suite (including, but not limited to Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Office Apps, Azure, InTune).
  20. Help build a culture that respects, values, and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Marginal Job Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with Audio Visual Recording Services and Devices (i.e., Mediasite, Panapto, Aurora, Creston, Extron)
  • Knowledge of standard PC, laptop, and peripheral configurations.
  • Knowledge of distance learning technologies and operation
  • Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • In-depth and hands-on experience with Microsoft Technologies specifically focused on the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 10/11, and Internet technologies.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, including network and security teams, to ensure smooth and secure operation of the IT infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and the ability to automate tasks using scripting.
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions, such as Veeam or Backup Exec.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and the ability to debug complex systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with other IT team members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and stay up-to-date with industry trends.
  • Ability to train users that may have limited technical expertise.
  • May have to occasionally assist with additional service desk duties for faculty and staff.

  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Networks, Information Technology or equivalent Industry Certifications and technical field and/or work experience
  • 3 years of on-the-job experience in both hardware and software support.
  • 5 years' experience in direct Customer Support Services.
  • Experience with management of Office 365 tenant environment(s)
  • Windows Business Enterprise network management experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry Certifications including, but not limited to Microsoft, CompTia, ITIL
  • Audio Visual technical operations
