DEAN, College of Education and Human Development

Texas A&M University-San Antonio is pleased to announce the search for the next Dean of the College of Education and Human Development. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the chief executive officer for the college and is responsible for leading the overall development, promotion, and operation of the college. In addition, the Dean is expected to be a passionate advocate for faculty, students, and the community and to create a clear vision for the continued growth and development of the college.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and maintain quality across all domains of the college.  Initiate and support activities that continuously improve undergraduate and graduate learning, teaching and research, including program accreditation and ongoing curriculum review. Foster and models a culture of transparent and consistent communication with faculty and staff in the college and with university and community partners. Ensure compliance with college, state, and national expectations and standards, including state standards for approved programs and standards for accreditation. Develop plans for the intermediate and long-term development of the college in consultation with the department chairs, faculty, and staff.  Identifies faculty and staff personnel needs and demonstrates a commitment to recruiting, advancing, and retaining highly qualified faculty and staff. Supervise the administrative staff and department chairs in the conduct of the routine business of the college. Supervise the development of personnel policies and procedures within the college to ensure compliance and consistency with university-wide faculty and staff personnel policies and procedures. Develops and manages the budget for the college. Provide support and advocacy for faculty who seek or who have been awarded external funding. Work collaboratively across the university and community to implement distinctive counseling, leadership, teacher preparation, and other educational studies. Implement the strategic plan at the college and university level. Provide support to student organizations and activities.  Assist in fund-raising activities for the college and assists department chairs with similar activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree in a field related to those represented in the college Eligible for tenure at the rank of Professor A distinguished record of service, teaching, and scholarly accomplishment Leadership experience as a Chair or Dean or comparable at an institution that offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees Record of success in fostering an educational environment conducive to excellence for students and faculty Knowledgeable about higher-educations policies and shared governance

Preferred

  • Experience working with accrediting agencies such as CACREP, SACS, and TEA/SBEC Experience developing and maintaining lab schools
