Stephens College is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and innovative individual to serve as Program Chair of our new Secondary Education Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the program and for ensuring its continued growth and success. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track position to begin August 2023.

Committed to a focus on putting students first, supporting teaching excellence and providing high quality immersive learning experiences, Stephens College is reconsidering all operations including curriculum offerings and delivery systems, course scheduling, professional partnerships and immersive learning experiences. The Secondary Education Program Chair will be someone who can think outside of the boundaries of traditional higher education to design, develop, launch and support new initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Secondary Education program including, but not limited to:
- Leading curriculum development and assessment efforts.
- Teaching courses in secondary methods and other courses consistent with academic preparation and program needs. (Teaching load will be agreed upon with the Dean.)
- Organizing and supervising field placements.
- Serve as liaison between public schools and the education program.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan to ensure the continued growth and success of the program.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
- Manage the program budget and resources.
- Recruit, hire, and retain high-quality faculty and staff.
- Provide service to the department, and college through committee work and other duties as assigned.
- Participate in student recruitment, retention, advising, and registration activities.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Education with emphasis in Secondary teaching Methods from an accredited institution.
- Experience in Teacher Education and college teaching with emphasis in English Language Arts preferred.
- Record of teaching courses related to Secondary Education.
- Experience supervising student teaching.
- Experience teaching in secondary classrooms.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
