Post Doctoral Fellow - Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences

Location: Clemson, SC

Description

A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (https://www.clemson.edu/cecas/departments/eees/) at Clemson University (CU).

The new hire will work on ESTCP and SERDP funded projects that involve the application of 14C assays and compound-specific isotope analysis to evaluate abiotic degradation rate constants for chlorinated ethenes in groundwater.

The research associate will be a key member of the project teams, which include participants from academia and consulting. The main objectives of the projects are 1) to evaluate the role of magnetic materials in drinking water aquifers to catalyze abiotic processes; 2) to evaluate the impact of modest heating on abiotic degradation rates, and 3) to quantify abiotic degradation rates for a novel tool (Mintraps) that is being used to predict mineral formation in situ without the need for obtaining core samples. The research associate will have an opportunity to participate in project management, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and participate in report and proposal writing.
