Earlham College is seeking a Career or Senior Career Coach to join our team!

Summary: The mission of the Center for Career Education is to empower students to imagine, design, and pursue an Epic journey that leads to a purposeful life and meaningful career.

Position Description:

The Career Coach works within the Center for Career Education (CCE) and assumes responsibility for a significant career-coaching caseload. The Career Coach is also highly engaged in the development and delivery of the campus-wide approach to career education, assuming shared responsibility for the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity Career Community. This position also provides outreach and support to underrepresented students, specifically working with the LIFT program for first-generation students and students of color to increase engagement with CCE programs and career outcomes.

Essential Functions:

Career Coaching

• Provide guidance, coaching and support to students throughout their 4-year career discernment and development process.
• Support students on all aspects of career planning including self-assessment, exploration, internship and job search strategies, graduate school search and application, interview preparation, writing professional correspondence (resume, cover letter, personal statement, etc.) through individual appointments and group presentations.
• Utilize Handshake for appointment scheduling and tracking.

Career Community Administration

• Collaborate with teaching faculty, alumni, employers, and others associated with the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity Career Community.
• Develop and deliver relevant career education resources and opportunities to students associated with the EIC Career Community through various online platforms, classroom presentations, workshops, email outreach, and in other venues.
• Keep abreast of available internship, research, and other experiences related to the EIC Career Community, as well as potential careers and graduate programs.
• Serve as the point person for campus event programming related to the EIC Career Community, working in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity and other relevant campus units.
• Participate in campus programming, classroom visits and other initiatives related to the Epic Journey and other career-related projects.
• Work with, hire, and supervise a small team of Peer Career Coaches (2-3) with the same Career Community assignment.
• Assist in training student Peer Career Coaches (all teams) on resources related to assigned Community.
• Develop and maintain relationships with faculty and other campus personnel in support of the overall purpose and goals of the assigned Career Community.
• Serve as the primary liaison between DEI campus organizations and offices. Support the LIFT program for first-generation college students through career-readiness initiatives.
• As an integral member of the CCE team, the Career Coach supports center initiatives including the Senior Launch, Epic Expo, Epic Advantage promotion, Designing Your Life, and other curricular initiatives.
• Professional development: Participate regularly in regional, national, or international professional development opportunities and networks.
• Board/committee service: Serve on various boards and committees, as appropriate to the CCE and EPIC missions.
• Ad hoc assignments: Complete other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least introductory (1 year) experience in college-level career advising and/or a closely related field, such as: experiential education, internship programming, or human resources
• Demonstrated skill in and passion for working with undergraduate students
• Demonstrated interpersonal relationship-building skills and experience working with a wide range of constituents, including employers, faculty, students, and alumni
• Experience communicating with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold and further Earlham’s Diversity Aspirations Vision Statement
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
• Clear understanding of and affinity with the purposes and values of a private residential liberal arts college and a demonstrated ability to work with teaching faculty
• Experience and comfort with digital tools and technology, including social media
• Commitment to high visibility on campus
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced office
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, particularly in translating the value of the liberal arts into graduate outcomes

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of current professional practices and challenges in career-education programming
• Knowledge of or experience in liberal-arts settings in higher education
• Experience in program creation, planning, implementation, and assessment
• Familiarity with the Handshake platform (or another career education-related platform)
• Master’s degree or graduate study
