Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Advancement for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations will serve as the key alumni, constituent, and stakeholder engagement officer in the college and Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE). This position will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the college’s and Virginia Cooperative Extension’s advancement engagement and stewardship efforts and will provide additional support toward the institution’s overall alumni engagement and institutional advancement goals and objectives. The Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations will oversee planning, developing, promoting, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating alumni and constituent engagement programs and events for the college, including Virginia Cooperative Extension. They will also work in collaboration with CALS Advancement leadership to provide guidance and leadership for volunteer and donor stewardship activities. The Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations will provide leadership to the college’s Tier 1 boards and guidance to CALS and VCE departmental, unit level, and center volunteer boards. This position will develop and lead a Virginia 4-H alumni and friends network in partnership with the Virginia State 4-H Leader. This position will also work collaboratively with members of the college’s advancement team, the dean, the director of Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Virginia State 4-H Leader to pursue and promote the overall institutional goals related to alumni and constituent engagement, communications and marketing, fundraising and stewardship. This position will lead a team of engagement professionals to include an assistant director of alumni relations, an assistant director of constituent relations, and an advancement intern.

Required Qualifications

- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree and significant experience in alumni and constituent relations activities.

- Experience in volunteer management, board management, event planning, fundraising, educational programming and/or alumni activities, and donor and volunteer stewardship.

- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be willing to work evenings/weekends and travel extensively as needed.

- Strong group presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Significant experience developing effective strategies for planning events to enhance philanthropic support.

- Knowledge of Virginia Tech and its programs and both the agriculture and life sciences industries is desirable.
