About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
Northeastern University's Experiential Digital Global Education Division (EDGE) is seeking a part-time Learning Experience Designer (LxD) to support our learning design team in the creation of high quality digital learning experiences. The EDGE Division drives Northeastern's growth goals and digital strategy broadly by serving two functions:
- Providing digital learning design and development services to Northeastern's schools and colleges
- Working with colleges & corporate partners connecting learning to employees and professionals.
This position involves supporting the development of effective online learning experiences with a focus on mirroring the rich learning environment provided by a Northeastern, experiential education. Ideal candidates for this position have strong learning design skills, a passion for solving problems and finding creative solutions, and the ability to stay organized and focused on priorities while thriving in an agile environment.
This position is scheduled to work for 10-15 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Work directly with faculty or subject matter experts to develop learning products and courses, with support and oversight from our team's Learning Experience Designers and Learning Design Managers.
- During development, there will be checkpoints with the design team members to ensure consistency and collaborate on innovative content design.
- Manage the instructional design process in order to ensure timely completion of design projects, while maintaining a high end, quality product.
- Create rigorous, relevant, and application based formative and summative assessments to effectively measure learning progress and mastery, and will collaborate closely with our team's Multimedia Video Producers, Animators, and Graphic Designers on digital media assets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in instructional design, distance learning, adult education, educational technology or a related field and/or a body of work that demonstrates similar competencies.
- Demonstrated experience designing and/or teaching online courses, preferably in Canvas and/or Coursera
- Experience designing learning offerings in response to an identified business or learning problem.
- Ability to design learning content while keeping in mind the user experience.
- Ability to design learning products for the unique needs of each identified audience.
- Demonstrated experience designing rigorous and relevant formative and summative assessments to effectively measure progress and mastery.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to collaborate across networks and work effectively in virtual teams.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills; ability to proactively manage course design and development issues as well as project schedule.
- Ability to be flexible and creative when faced with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to apply instructional design principles, learning theory, and educational technologies in he design and development of online learning experiences.
- Experience with one or more learning management systems as well as common software used in the design and development of distance learning courses.
- Ability to effectively manage projects that involve diverse individuals who may be local or at a distance.
