Position Purpose

Envisions, plans, and leads, strategies, initiatives, programs, and activities to enhance Diversity and Inclusive Excellence through the breaking down of barriers and building of pathways to science, medicine, and healthcare for students, researchers, educators, and patients in oncology.

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging ( DEIB ) serves as a subject matter expert in the Dartmouth Cancer Center advising leadership and planning, initiating and following through on policies, initiatives, practices supporting and promoting Diversity and Inclusive Excellence. The position will work closely with the newly named Dartmouth Cancer Center faculty Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and also with Dartmouth College’s Division of Institutional Diversity and Equity, Dartmouth Health’s VP for DEI and the Geisel School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement to build the foundation for DEIB and Inclusive Excellence programming, align strategies with institutional initiatives and to build and carry out innovative approaches to promoting DEIB .

Description

This position serves as an integral leader, contributor, and representative for the Dartmouth Cancer Center who is seeking a DEIB professional.

Serves as a subject matter expert in the Dartmouth Cancer Center advising leadership, and planning, initiating and following through on policies, initiatives, and practices supporting and promoting DEIB and Inclusive Excellence. Envisions, plans, and leads, strategies, initiatives, programs, and activities to enhance DEIB and Inclusive Excellence through the breaking down of barriers and building of pathways to science, medicine, and healthcare for students, researchers, educators, and patients in oncology.

This role will work across professional schools, departments, clinics, and research areas to identify and break down barriers to education, research, and care in oncology. This position will work closely with the cancer center’s Community Outreach and Engagement ( COE ), Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination ( CRTEC ), Office of Clinical Research ( OCR ), Geisel School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement ( DICE ), and Dartmouth College’s Division of Institutional Diversity and Equity ( IDE ) teams to:
  • increase access to education, research, and clinical trials for underrepresented, minority, and vulnerable populations;
  • to align strategies with institutional initiatives and;
  • to build and carry out innovative approaches to Inclusive Excellence.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Masters with 7+ years of increasing responsibility in an academic, non-profit, or research setting.
  • Experience supporting, advancing, and engaging underrepresented groups in employment, research, clinical, and higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated success developing, implementing, and administering diversity strengthening programming in either a higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated success fostering and sustaining diverse constituent networks. Understanding and knowledge of the diversity community and organizations that represent and support professionals of color and other underrepresented groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion for the promotion of and creation of inclusive and just workplaces.
  • Demonstrated understanding of racism, intersectionality, and differing elements of diversity such as class, identity, cultural background, and so forth.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability in relationship building and networking.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of relevance of community/population-wide skills to serve rural populations known to face barriers to full engagement.
  • Experience supporting, advancing, and engaging underrepresented groups in cancer clinical trial settings.
  • Demonstrated success developing, implementing, and administering co-curricular academic programming and events.

Description

Strategic Planning:
  • In collaboration with cancer center leadership, envisions, develops, implements, and maintains a five-year Plan to Enhance Diversity ( PED ) within the cancer center. Is the subject matter expert for the PED and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Works collaboratively with inter and intra-institutional resources to identify and participate in co-curricular activities that grow student/educator experience.
  • Works with institutional resources, such as IDE and DICE, to develop robust recruitment and retention strategies that diversify staff, faculty, and clinical trial enrollment with underrepresented minorities.
  • Establishes metrics for evaluating and driving progress of PED and Inclusive Excellence initiatives, and maintains clear, timely communications on progress with cancer center leadership.
  • Collects and analyzes data related to implementation and outcomes of initiatives, programming, recruitment, and retention.
  • Pursues and maintains knowledge of market trends, research, innovations, local and national needs relating to diversity in higher education, cancer research, and cancer clinical trials.
