Position Purpose
Reporting directly to the Provost and working with the institute’s Faculty Director, the Executive Director, Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life will lead the institute during the initial four-year pilot phase, building a strong and collaborative foundation that will enable the Institute to develop into an enduring hub in which the ideas of Black faculty, students, and staff from across disciplinary and departmental boundaries are nurtured and flourish. Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- 6 years related experience with 3 or more of those years with experience in higher education.
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to build collaborative initiatives.
- Demonstrated competence in fiscal and personnel management and long-range planning.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to inspire and work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and academic leaders across the institution and beyond.
- Strong relationship builder with the ability to influence varied constituents to achieve impact.
- Passion for Dartmouth’s educational mission with a genuine desire to connect with undergraduate,graduate and professional students.
- Appreciation for and interest in faculty research and staff professional growth.
- Strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with proven ability to work with a diverse population and understanding of the particular experiences, interests, and concerns frequently expressed by Black students, staff, and faculty.
- Relevant advanced terminal degree preferred.
- Current or previous program leadership is highly preferred.

Description
Leadership and Strategic Planning - Provides the vision and administrative leadership to support Dartmouth’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as it relates to the experiences and success of Black faculty, staff, and students. Leads a strategic planning process, in consultation with the steering committee, to guide the Institute during the four-year pilot phase; creates a multi-year budget to realize this strategic plan.

Program Development – Works with internal steering committee to develop Institute’s programming; Promotes student, staff, and faculty interactions with visiting scholars, artists, writers, and activists hosted by the Institute.

Campus Collaboration – Builds the Institute’s connections with other units on campus; Fosters intellectual community among faculty, staff, and students, especially through the development of programming focusing on the cultural and scholarly expression of the Black community at Dartmouth; supports faculty scholarship through sponsorship of conferences, manuscript reviews, visiting scholars, and research seminars.

Outreach - Supports reciprocal connections between Dartmouth and communities of color and other organizations in the Upper Valley and New England; supports institutional efforts designed to foster engagement between Black alumni and students regarding career development and life after Dartmouth; convenes semi-annual or annual meetings of external board of advisors.

Advancement - Working with the Advancement division, raises funds to permanently endow the Institute; develops and manages the fiscal affairs of the Institute, as well as participates in fundraising activities to ensure future success of the Institute.
