The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah invites applications for a professional- track Instructor of the Practice position in Software Engineering to begin January 2024. The preferred candidate will possess an MS in Computer Science or a related discipline, or a BS with professional expertise equivalent to a master's degree. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience in s oftware engineering, but candidates with adequate teaching assistant experience are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop introductory courses in software engineering . The preferred candidate will have experience in current software engineering practices and be able to develop both mobile and web solutions. Potential courses to be taught will be determined by the strengths of the applicant. Responsibilities
  • Teach 30 credits of lecture and laboratory courses each academic year in software engineering and related disciplines.
  • Engage students in active and experiential learning.
  • Contribute to the development of programs in software engineering and related fields, including assisting students on how to fulfill computing, general education, and discipline-specific requirements.
  • Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings; work with other faculty in program management and adhere to university policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science or related field required; a bachelor's degree with professional expertise equivalent to a master's degree will also be considered.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with relevant prior teaching experience and/or relevant industry experience.
  • A strong commitment to and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, including an ongoing commitment to improvements in teaching methods and curriculum.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • An interest in active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement are desirable.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins January 2024. Annual salary of $60,000+ depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
