Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or a related field with one year of experience in laboratory preparation.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of student stockroom IWS / FWS workers, training students as needed in hazardous waste procedures and teaching lab reset/setup practices.
- Support Stockroom Manager with preparation and execution of >=300-level labs.
- Maintain database of department chemical inventory.
- Ensure stockroom staffing is covered while teaching labs are in session (in conjunction with the Stockroom Manager).
- Ensure the correct labeling of all lab chemicals, packaging, and disposal of hazardous waste is completed safely and in compliance with appropriate regulations (in conjunction with Stockroom Manager).
- Support faculty in the development, review, and revision of procedures and experiments in <300-level labs.
- Monitor overall department laboratory safety (in conjunction with Stockroom Manager).
- Other stockroom/laboratory duties as necessary.
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or a related field with one year of experience in laboratory preparation.
- Sound knowledge of the safe handling of chemicals and hazardous waste.
- Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ability to rapidly respond to questions and needs of faculty, students, staff, and visitors to the department.
- Sufficient computer skills to learn lab- and database-specific software in addition to the normal work word processing, spreadsheet, email, and internet software.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to guide student workers to complete tasks in a timely manner.
