Position Title: STARS-VUB Outreach Recruitment Specialist

Program Overview:

The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program is a Federal TRIO Program funded by the US Department of Education. VUB is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic and other requisite skills necessary for acceptance and success in a program of postsecondary education. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas. The primary goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and complete postsecondary education programs.

The VUB Students Training for Academic Readiness and Success (STARS), provides services to participants in the Tulsa and Muskogee areas.

Position Overview:

The TRIO VUB Outreach Recruitment Specialist is a temporary commission-based position funded until August 31, 2023, or until program has recruited to 100% capacity. This is a remote field position that will work with community partners in Tulsa and/or Muskogee and will pay $80 for each intake.

Specific Essential Job Functions:

The VUB STARS Outreach Recruitment Specialist performs the following:
  • Identify and recruit eligible veteran participants for VUB STARS (with possibility of additional recruitment based on program needs after meeting recruitment goal)
  • Assist with participant application up to intake and receive $80.00 for each successful intake.
  • Send regular report updates on recruitment progress to Project Director
  • Assist participants with document preparation for STARS-VUB program application and admission.
  • Manages personal data in accordance with federal human protections certifications requirements.
Qualifications/Experience Required:

Completed at least 30 college credit hours, or equivalent work experience. Demonstrated coordination of recruitment strategies. Able to work in the Tulsa and/or Muskogee areas. This position requires expertise with under-represented populations or participants with high risk of academic failure; and experience in removing barriers facing participants; Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred :

U.S. Military Veteran or previous work related to serving veterans and military connected individuals.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse populations. Ability to work well with peers, supervisor, and students. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Excellent mechanical, computing, and networking skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be detail oriented. Understanding and knowledge of the veteran and military connected community.
