Accessibility Coordinator



Job Description:

Champlain College is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Accessibility Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Accessibility. This role works to ensure that eligible students receive appropriate accommodations and supportive services in compliance with federal regulations. The coordinator works in tandem with the Assistant Director providing direct services to students with disabilities. Services provided include academic and housing accommodations, 1:1 weekly or bi-monthly meetings to provide extra support, and providing advocacy for the student when issues arise. The coordinator will also assist in creating and implementing retention programs for students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of students representing a wide range of disabilities and functional limitations, and determine appropriate student accommodations based on an understanding of professional evaluations and federal laws
    • Conducts documentation review for new students and presents ideas regarding reasonable accommodations to the Assistant Director.
    • Conducts 1:1 meetings each semester to discuss accommodations with students. Reviews course syllabi to determine appropriate accommodations for classes.
    • Creates and send accommodation to students, faculty, and necessary parties. Creates student files in Maxient.
    • Responds to questions from students and faculty about accommodations and directs concerns, complaints, or disagreements to the Assistant Director.
  • Assists the Assistant Director in communication tasks.
    • Monitor and manage the office email addresses. Send out emails to students and professors, welcome emails to new students, and welcome back letters to prior students.
    • Answer phone and questions around the accommodation process for students and supporters.
    • Send reminder emails regarding housing accommodations, ESA vaccination documentation updates, semester academic accommodation process, and other communications to current students.
  • Responsible for Managing Testing Center
    • Schedules and manages testing rooms for students using testing accommodations. This includes communicating with professors and students, ensuring the delivery and return of all exams, booking rooms outside of Skiff Hall during finals week as well as other duties related to testing.
    • Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of retention programs for students with disabilities.
    • Create and implement Disability Affinity Group for students with disabilities. This includes creating all marketing, sending out communications, booking event space, and leading the event.
  • Assist Assistant Director with other retention programs as needed
    • Adhoc assignments may include assisting with Accessibility audits and create accessible versions of printed material, completing data entry, running reports in Maxient, creating semester and year-end reports, and updating promotional materials such as student and faculty handbooks, student forms, etc.



Requirements:

  • Excellent administrative skills
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years of experience working with diverse populations
