Position Overview
University Honors Program, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
The University Honors Program is seeking a KU faculty member to hold a 50% appointment as an associate director to support faculty engagement in the program. This position will serve as part of the honors leadership team and contribute to the development of strategic goals to deepen student engagement through exceptional faculty teaching and mentoring. The associate director will enhance program efforts to secure faculty involvement, build community among honors faculty, and develop innovative approaches to supporting honors students through teaching and experiential learning activities. Through these activities, the program seeks to increase students’ successful completion of honors program requirements.
The ideal candidate will hold a record of teaching activities that advance equity and inclusion, as well as support the social justice initiatives within the program.
The selected candidate will continue to have 0.5 FTE in a faculty position in an academic unit or department. Specific allocation of duties may be discussed and/or negotiated at the time of appointment in discussion with the dean, chair, and director of the Honors Program. This is a 9-month, 0.5/0.5 split with academic department, position. 3-year appointment with possibility of reappointment. This position will require limited engagement for specific summer activities.

Job Description
Associate Director, University Honors Program (0.5 FTE), responsibilities:
25% Administration
- Serve as a member of the honors leadership team and advise on matters of faculty engagement.
- Provide leadership for the honors seminar program including securing faculty participation, providing training for new and returning faculty, and building community within the teaching cohort.
- Support the development and implementation of an assessment plan for HNRS courses, particularly the honors seminar.
15% Academic program development
- Contribute to the development of a second-year experience that facilitates connections between students and faculty.
- Build structures to assess and expand existing faculty mentoring activities.
10% Teaching
- Teach one section of HNRS 190 or 195 (1-credit hour) per academic year.
- Contribute to experiential learning activities that align with the Enhanced Learning Experience (ELE curriculum), for example, Common Cause.
