The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Captain of the University Police Department.  This position serves as the command-level staff for the professional standards section, which consists of the support and special operations units. The captain is responsible for the professional standards section's performance in fulfilling the department's mission by providing leadership, support, development, and accountability for sergeants, officers, and non-sworn staff assigned. This position may be required to respond to calls for service and patrols university property in order to enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policy. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; writing reports, reviewing submitted reports, patrolling for suspicious activity, directing traffic, providing security for university events, and assisting with policy development and implementation, training, and maintenance of necessary compliance documentation. This position will also assist in maintaining a “Community Policing Model” as it administers its policing services to the campus community. 

Minimum qualifications include: High school diploma/equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred; A minimum of one year of supervisory experience at the rank of Lieutenant or Sergeant is required; Seven years of progressive responsibility as a sworn police officer is required; Five years of higher education police experience is preferred; Qualifying education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered; Satisfactory or above-average job performance in previous positions is preferred; Current certification as a Peace Officer by the Alabama Peace Officer's Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) or able to obtain such within six months of hire is required.
