Primary Purpose of Position:
North Carolina Central University's Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities seeks applicants for a full-time 9-month Clinical instructor position (non-tenure-track) (PN 611227) on a fixed-term contract starting in August 2023. This position is primarily responsible for monitoring and advising at-risk students; teaching and advising undergraduate students; research and service.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Earned Master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, or related field; Experience with teaching online and face-to-face courses, and experience teaching adult learners; Commitment to advising and working with diverse populations; Strong case Management Experience; and, Professional recommendations evidencing cooperation with colleagues, good character, integrity and attitude.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This person will be expected to teach the practicum and cooperative courses, advise and monitor students who perform below the university academic standards, be responsible for tracking student success and retention, develop the practicum course, identify and establish new co-op and internship opportunities as well as serve on departmental and university committees. This person is heavily involved with agencies ensuring students perform at maximum level during their experiential learning. The courses are both robust and vigorous in professional development. This person also handles the academic appeals within the department and ensures students are enrolled in their classes once the appeals are approved. Person must be able to teach distance education courses and performs face-to-face instruction, engages in curriculum development and assessment at the undergraduate level, and advises students face-to-face and in a virtual workspace. In addition, the individual participates in the normal functions of the Department. The key performance indicators for this position include establishing a protocol assessment of at-risk students, preparing Memorandums of Understanding with agencies, timely and accurate academic advising, and course instructions that achieve student learning outcomes with high Student Rating of Instruction (SRI) scores. This position supports the University’s strategic goal of sustaining and elevating the quality of teaching in academic units. The required knowledge, skills and abilities include advanced technological skills, effective written and interpersonal communication skills, knowledge and ability to deliver instruction via the Canvas or similar systems, and experience with technology-integrated learning environments.
