College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources

The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UH Manoa ) seeks a proven and visionary leader to serve as Dean and Director of Research and Cooperative Extension (Dean) at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR). The next dean will be an energetic motivator who can leverage the many strengths of the University and the people and environments of Hawai‘i. These strengths include Hawai‘i’s unique rich indigenous and ancestral knowledge, multi-cultural diversity, and geographical attributes, and will be used to further develop CTAHR as the premier higher education resource to solve complex and interrelated problems in food systems, food security, natural resources management, and community resiliency and human well-being in the Pacific-Asia region. CTAHR strives to prepare all students, and all community members, for life-long learning. The dean will need a high level of managerial comprehension to facilitate complex matters relating to budgets, programs, personnel, and facilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with transdisciplinary sciences and facilitating community-based partnerships that build capacity resulting in mutually beneficial social and ecological outcomes.

CTAHR is committed to an educated community, a healthy population, and a sustainable food system and environment that strengthens the well-being and economic development of the people of Hawai‘i and beyond. The college is an integral part of UH Manoa’s Carnegie “RU/VH” designation and distinguishes itself in areas of resilient and thriving community health, vibrant tropical and Pacific island agriculture and food security, ecosystem health, and workforce and economic development.

CTAHR faculty work to promote long-term family, community and policy changes that strengthen and promote the quality of life of our stakeholders throughout Hawai‘i and the Pacific Basin. CTAHR values learning, discovery, and engagement in formal and non-formal settings, place-based and experiential learning, and strives for excellence in all its endeavors.
