The Department of Environmental and Biological Science at the University of Mount Olive seeks applicants for a faculty position in Biology starting in Fall, 2023. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach courses in agricultural biotechnology with an emphasis in plants and plant genetics as well as in general biology for majors and non-majors. The candidate will also be expected to provide academic advising to students, participate in club activities, and integrate into the campus community. The University of Mount Olive is located in Wayne County in eastern North Carolina. The University is one hour east of Raleigh, the state capital, and one hour west of Wilmington, a bustling coastal community. Wayne County offers a rural setting while offering easy access to multiple cities and towns via an extensive interstate system.
The University of Mount Olive has become one of the most unique and innovative private educational institutions in North Carolina. The university is classified as a liberal arts institution and offers a bachelor of arts degree in biology and a bachelor of science degree in biology with concentrations in general biology, biomedical science, and ecology and natural resource management. Much of the university’s growth is directly attributable to the School of Agriculture and Biological Sciences (SABS) program offerings. Thirty percent of the traditional student body is pursuing degrees with SABS.
The University is looking for faculty who enjoy teaching, mentoring, and encouraging students to excel. The class sizes are small so as to create an environment favorable for the integration of hands-on learning experiences as well as for fostering student/professor engagement. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of a Masters's Degree in Biology or closely related field (Ph.D. Preferred) and a strong commitment to effective teaching and mentoring undergraduates. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, statement of research interests, list of three references, and graduate transcripts to: Manager of Faculty Records/University of Mount Olive/634 Henderson St/Mount Olive, NC 28365/or e-mail:email@example.com. Unofficial transcripts will suffice for initial consideration, but official transcripts will be required before an on-campus interview.
