Rowan University is accepting applications for the position of Director of Degree Advancement & Partnership Relations for the Respiratory Therapy Program. Offering entry-level and degree-advancement programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy, the Rowan University Respiratory Therapy program is located in the new Health Sciences Center on the campus of Rowan College of Jersey in Sewell, NJ. The entry-level and degree-advancement baccalaureate programs hold provisional accreditation by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and will enroll students beginning in the Fall 2023 term. The Director of Degree Advancement & Partnership Relations will also work collaboratively with the leadership and faculty of associate degree-granting programs in respiratory care and the directors of respiratory care departments to develop educational pathways to strengthen the respiratory therapy workforce.
The Director will be expected to teach in and administer the program, including development and scheduling of online courses, recruitment, and support of instructors for each term, and orientation and resources for teaching as needed. The Director will also be a core member of the program’s key personnel and will participate in overall program governance with opportunities to teach in the entry level program. In collaboration with the Division of Global Learning & Partnerships, the Director will oversee recruitment activities, admissions outreach, onboarding, and student support. Responsibilities will include program planning and development; ongoing review and assessment of program activities; fiscal planning; curricular oversight; student recruitment; teaching in the program; and service. The anticipated distribution of workload for this full-time position will eventually be 50% teaching and 50% administration, with a greater proportion devoted to administration initially as necessary to launch the program and achieve continuing accreditation by CoARC.
The Respiratory Therapy program at Rowan is administratively housed within the Rowan-Virtua School of Nursing and Health Professions. The Director of Degree Advancement & Partnership Relations will hold a Master Lecturer faculty appointment and will report to the Program Director. The position will be a full-time 12-month non-tenure-track appointment renewable for multi-year contracts.
The responsibilities of the founding director will be to:
- Provide oversight and leadership for the degree advancement program
- Recruit a diverse faculty and student body and cultivate an inclusive environment
- Oversee all aspects of program development and align them with professional standards for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care
- Demonstrate current working knowledge of respiratory care and best practices
- Oversee initial and follow up accreditation reporting
- Develop degree advancement curricula
- Teach primarily in the degree advancement program and occasionally in the entry-level program
- Oversee effective and meaningful assessment of program outcomes and student learning outcomes
- Engage in professional collaboration with area clinical affiliates to ensure contemporary practices, advisory committee engagement, and educational and employment opportunities
- Anticipate needs for new curricular development in emerging areas of practice
- Develop and implement strategies for student retention and success
- Work collaboratively with supporting departments such as admissions and advisement
- Develop agreements with educational partners and healthcare providers to cultivate applicant pools for the degree advancement program
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Master's degree in respiratory therapy or closely related healthcare field from an accredited institution
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current NJ state license
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs
- Ability to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology or proven ability to learn these skills
- Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.

The physical demands described below are representative of those necessary to fulfill the essential functions of the job. Instruction in use of equipment and activities associated with patient care replicates the clinical setting and requires physical capacity comparable to that of a practicing respiratory therapist based on the O*NET summary of work activities. Salary: Minimum $ 109,390.72
