Job Description Summary
The Penn Center for Inclusive Innovation & Technology is a new center at SP2, focused on developing and implementing innovative approaches to community engagement and community-informed innovation, guided at every step by a deep commitment to social justice and anti-racist frameworks. The Center will promote values-oriented approaches to community engaged innovation in social work, philanthropy, nonprofits, social policy, as well as across other Penn disciplines. The Center will develop models of equitable innovation through community engagement in technology, research, advocacy, and more.

The Executive Director will bring experience and creative insight to PCIIT, as well as a passion for social equity in the tech space. The Executive Director will be responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the Center. The Executive Director will work closely with the Faculty Director and the Center's Advisory Board to develop and implement the Center's strategic plan and advance the Center's mission to promote inclusive innovation and technology that improves social outcomes. The Executive Director will also be responsible for managing the Center's staff, fundraising, and developing partnerships with external stakeholders. In terms of developing partnerships, the Executive Director will collaborate with other centers and programs at SP2 and across the University to advance interdisciplinary research and teaching on technology for social impact. Additionally, the Executive Director will be responsible for managing the daily operations of PCIIT, collaborating with stakeholders and local partners, and communicating PCIIT's work externally. They will also provide thought leadership regarding research dissemination, policy, and miscellaneous creative projects.

Position contingent on grant funding.

All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Penn Center for Inclusive Innovation and Technology. Create a 5-year strategic plan vision alongside the Faculty Director and Creative Director. Conceptualize and oversee the planning and implementation of strategic plan.
  • Manage the Center's staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Host regular check-ins with staff and discuss supervision in detail with staff. Provide oversight and leadership on all PCIIT workstreams (i.e. paper writing, creative research dissemination, and partnerships.)
  • Develop and implement the Center's overall budget and strategic plan in partnership with the Faculty Director and the Advisory Board.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal (Sp2) programs/centers, especially other ones conducting community-based participatory research in Philadelphia. Meet with SP2 centers regularly to identify potential collaborations and update them on PCIIT's current activities.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support the Center's work, including grants, contracts, and other sources of revenue. Regularly meet with current and prospective funders to keep them updated on PCIIT's work and discuss future/current grant opportunities,
  • Oversee the Center's research and programmatic activities, ensuring that they align with the Center's mission and strategic priorities. Also ensure that current research/programs follow the strategic plan's goals.
  • Collaborate with other centers and programs at SP2 and across the University to advance interdisciplinary research and teaching on innovation and technology for social impact. Utilize personal and professional contacts, as well as other PCIIT leadership contacts, to identify additional external organizations working on issues related to equity in technology. These contacts include external stakeholders [such as other university labs/centers, creative arts organizations, and social impact non-profits], donors, partners, and community members. Regularly meet with contacts/stakeholders/potential partners to discuss updates on PCIIT's work, provide potential areas for collaboration, and maintain working relationships with others in the field.
  • Represent the Center at local, national, and international conferences and events. Prepare to speak publicly about the work at the Center and share best practices with other experts in the tech innovation field and surface opportunities for further collaboration.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on the Center's activities and achievements to the Dean of SP2 and the Advisory Board.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.


Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 5-7 years of leadership, community development, and/or technology and innovation, experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Demonstrated ability to manage larger budgets, lead diverse teams, supervise staff, and allocate resources effectively. Demonstrated evidence of an existing network within relevant sub-fields and a desire to work in a research environment marked by innovation required. Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences including community organizations, students, community members, policymakers, and academia. Exceptional organizational skills and capacity for managing multiple deadlines requiring advance forecasting. A desire to collaborate with transdisciplinary professionals and work within the Philadelphia community to advance tech innovation that is inclusive of diverse lived experiences and backgrounds. Must be specifically passionate about racial justice, tech equity, and have an understanding of creative research dissemination.

Pay Range
$74,476.00 - $100,000.00 Annual Rate
Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
