Dean of Students

The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS), a public residential high school serving talented students from across the state, seeks a full-time Dean of Students. The Dean of Students will serve as the Chief Student Affairs Officer and provide direct leadership for all student-related programming and all of residence life. The Dean of Students is the “keeper of the culture,” ensuring that ASMS holistically supports student development and achievement. This position requires a creative and inspiring professional with adult leadership experience, high energy, excellent organizational abilities, and a talent for creating a warm and supportive environment for students. Success in this role will require strategic thinking, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to work. The Dean will serve as a member of a Leadership Team dedicated to cultivating excellence throughout the school and community. Required Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Student Development, or other appropriate field and five years of relevant, progressive experience in student affairs or a combination of experiences from which comparable knowledge and skill may be acquired. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Student Development, or other appropriate discipline and seven years of relevant progressive experience in student affairs. Experience working with adolescents.
