The Department of Geology at Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to begin in August 2022. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in geology or a related field with emphasis on surface or near surface processes, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, and a willingness to supervise undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses and upper-level undergraduate courses in the applicant's specialty; the ability to teach a first level course in GIS is desirable. Other expectations include research, college service and continuing professional development.

With this hire, the department is committing to having students begin to address critical environmental and ecosystem problems in the southcentral states. Centenary is in a region with natural laboratories for the study of fluvial, coastal, and lacustrine systems. The Red, Ouachita, Atchafalaya, and Mississippi Rivers are all accessible as study opportunities. The college is an affiliate of the Louisiana University Marine Consortium (LUMCON) which provides access to research opportunities for both faculty and students.  The college also has access to significant historical collections related to the region’s petroleum production.

The department houses a Perkin-Elmer ICP-MS and shares a Hitachi SEM with energy dispersive X-ray capabilities with the Chemistry Department. The department also has a computer laboratory for GIS and other software applications.
