The School of Nursing at High Point University invites applications for a full-time 9-month or 12-month Adult Health/Med-Surg Nursing faculty for the pre-licensure BSN option. The faculty will be instrumental in course development or coordination and will teach across the curriculum in the pre-licensure BSN option. Evening or weekend teaching and clinical instruction may be required in any given semester.

 

This faculty will have a strong teaching and clinical background in Adult Health/Medical Surgical Nursing with the ability to teach introductory nursing support courses, and other nursing courses throughout the nursing curriculum under the direction of the Founding Dean of the School of Nursing. Additional responsibilities include hands-on clinical practicum instruction, assisting with course development, clinical skills lab instruction, clinical learning simulation exercises, classroom instruction, exam development (Next Generation NCLEX-RN), recruitment events, etc., and additional duties as assigned. Recruitment, advisement, and academic mentorship of potential and actual students are required.

 

BSN Faculty Responsibilities

  • Didactic and clinical instruction across the nursing curriculum using evidence-based methodology Recruitment, advisement, and academic mentorship of potential and actual students Service on university and departmental committees Engagement in scholarship, and service-related activities Coordinating or leading hands-on clinical practicums Assisting with course development Maintaining and organizing the nursing clinical skills lab, simulation suites, classrooms, etc.   Maintaining inventory for the clinical skills lab and simulation suites  Additional duties as assigned

 

 

Essential Knowledge

  • Familiarity with North Carolina Board of Nursing’s Regulations and Standards Familiar with accreditation standards and curriculum development (CCNE preferred) Familiar with NCLEX-RN Test Plan and Next Generation NCLEX Clinical practice background in medical-surgical nursing/adult health nursing Familiar with education principles and standards for professional nursing practice at the BSN level or above Fosters the development and delivery of “best practices”  and evidence-based practice” with respect to technology and pedagogical principles

     

Essential Skills

  • Simulation education in adult health/medical-surgical nursing (preferred) Electronic test development using the NCLEX-RN and Next Generation NCLEX format A record of scholarship to meet the desired academic rank (i.e., instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor) Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) CPR certified Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, team building, and communication skills (written and oral) Student-centered Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in all settings

    Qualifications

     

    Education:

    • Minimum: Master’s degree in nursing education or equivalent from an accredited institution Preferred: Doctorate degree in nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution
     

     

    Experience:

    • Three or more years of clinical expertise as a RN in a medical-surgical/ adult health nursing practice area  Familiarity with simulation education in medical-surgical/ adult health nursing Three or more years of teaching (classroom and clinical) in a BSN level educational program or higher (course coordination or lead faculty role strongly preferred).

     

    Licensure:

    •     Unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina (or eligible)
