Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Student Accounts, the Assistant Director of Student Accounts will
be responsible for the supervision and coverage of the Student Accounts team. The team includes
a staff of two, consisting of Cashiers/Student Account Specialists. The Assistant Director must
possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail and
accuracy. The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential as well as the ability
to prioritize work, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment while handling competing
demands.

Duties & Responsibilities

Tasks include, but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
● Manage the daily cashiering operation of the division, including cash reconciliation and
deposits.
● Manage and implement federal and institutional policies related to processing payments and
disbursement of funds.
● The Assistant Director is informed and up to date on federal regulations with respect to loans,
disbursement of federal funds, reconciling, and cash management.
● Analysis and disbursement of student credit balances.
● Analyze and manage the disbursement and return of all Title IV and direct lending funds in
compliance with federal regulations.
● Resolve student inquiries and manage individual student accounts as needed.
● Oversees resolution of disputes for billing/late fees.
● Manage Third Party processing and reconciliation of account balances included precollect and
regular collections.
● Manage tuition exemption processing for the institution and our affiliates, including billing
third parties.
● Process third-party collection agency credits/payments to AR account balances.
● Assist in the University’s recovery efforts of past due accounts and collection of all student
accounts including sending past-due follow-up inquiries and referring accounts to a third-party
collection agency.
● Perform various collection activities with the primary focus being the collection of debt owed
by students and former students.
● Performs other duties that support Student Accounts and operations of the one-stop center
including, but not limited to outreach efforts to assist with retention and enrollment.
● Direct, plan, and organize staff activities to achieve all division goals.
● Recommend and participate in the development of office policies and procedures.
● Provide recommendations to enhance processes for improved service delivery and work on
special projects and tasks as assigned.

Qualification Standards
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or a directly related field and 5 years of related experience in the Bursar/Student accounts field.
  • Strong knowledge of the student refund process and Return to Title IV calculations. The ideal candidate must have managed a diverse workload and multi-task in a deadline-driven, fast-paced team environment.
  • Computer proficiency in spreadsheet applications, such as Excel, along with Microsoft Word. Candidates must possess superior communication and customer service skills and the ability to work independently and be a positive team member.
Education
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or a directly related field and 5 years of related experience in the Bursar/Student accounts field.
